| Mean girls: Girls are fighting more – in school, in the mall parking ...
She sees parents who are not signing report cards or showing up for parent-teacher conferences. She sees parents who are being aggressive at home. "Parents are teaching by default," she said. "Girls are watching how they handle conflict. They are watching how Mom is dealing with a friend or significant other. Is it normal to become angry? Yes. What is not appropriate is physical aggression." But what if that's how you were raised? "I hear all the time from girls 'That's how we do things; it's our family rule,'" she said. "I hear that it is the reputation of the family to fight. We've got to break that cycle." So Jackson often counsels the entire family. "The entire family has to buy into it," she said. "They all have to find an alternative way to deal with anger." But that doesn't mean you can't be strong, she tells the girls.
CORNER CUBE MONDAY 2/25: Thoughts on Mayweather and Big Show press ...
Updated throughout the day from the corner cubicle, Torch columnist James Caldwell's weekday blog focuses on hot topic current events and other items of interest from around wrestling. Updated Monday, February 25 - Mayweather press conference. I've determined I'm never eating at Jack in the Box again after sitting through the same JitB commercial for 30 minutes waiting for WWE to stream the Mayweather press conference on their website. That aside, it's clear that Mayweather is the heel in the program against Big Show unless it's strictly a pro-De La Hoya and anti-Mayweather thing in Los Angeles. But, Mayweather is a natural heel, so I believe the best dynamic here is to keep Mayweather cocky and arrogant, while keeping Big Show tough and the aggressor. Even with Rey Mysterio by his side, Mayweather created his own heel wrestling persona at this press conference by flashing dollar bills and flaunting that he's got money, mansions, cars, and girls.
Montoya's NASCAR success paves way for new drivers
Montoya had one of the best rookie seasons in recent NASCAR history in 2007. He won a race, ran strong in several others and finished 20th in the Cup standings better than most expected since he was making the difficult transition from open-wheel racing to stock cars. In short, he set a new benchmark for others to follow. There are plenty of followers, too. Fellow open-wheel stars Dario Franchitti, Sam Hornish Jr., Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Carpentier are making the same jump to NASCAR's top series this season. And they are hoping for similar results. "Juan ended up in the top 20 in points and was Rookie of the Year. If I could do that, that's plenty good for me," Hornish said. .
Super Bowl practice begins in the bubble
The Giants are back to work, practicing for Super Bowl XLII. Nope, writing it down doesn't make it sound any less ridiculous. Almost all of them were out inside the practice bubble this afternoon, with the notable exceptions of CB Kevin Dockery (hip) and LG Rich Seubert (knee). Both players were working with trainers on the sidelines. Seubert was wearing a big brace on his right knee. As usual, the media was booted from the bubble right after the individual drills, so we don't know yet if Tom Coughlin planned to hold anyone else out of the team drills. Keep in mind, though, he doesn't have to issue an injury report until Wednesday, so he probably won't. Meanwhile, Hank Gola, who's on the Patriots beat for the Daily News up in Foxborough, said Bill Belichick would not discuss injuries at all with the press (Shocked! Shocked, I am!).

Genesco agrees to settle with Finish Line, UBS and call off disputed ...
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Genesco Inc. announced on Monday it has agreed to end a legal battle to compel Finish Line Inc. and UBS AG to proceed with a proposed $1.5 billion buyout of the specialty retailer. Genesco shares tumbled 21 percent on the announcement while Finish Line shares rose 32 percent. The proposed settlement, which must be approved by the companies' boards, would require UBS and Finish Line to pay Nashville-based Genesco $175 million in cash and 12 percent of Finish Line's outstanding common stock. Both Genesco and Finish Line boards were scheduled to meet on Monday on whether to approve the settlement deal. Indianapolis-based Finish Line and UBS had been trying to get out of the deal they offered in June, claiming that Genesco was not forthcoming about its financial situation.
2008 Toyota Land Cruiser - Cruisin' 'Bruknail'
The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the premier 4x4 vehicles around. Toyota Jamaica brought one to the ADA motor show last year and we were eager to get our hands on it. So when we heard that they were having a test day on a remote area in off-road conditions two Saturdays ago, we jumped at the chance. The place was Greenwich Farm, Newcastle, and the track was a precipitous trail called BRUCKNAIL that was used as a route for carrying produce on four-legged animals. Two strapping journalists were about to button themselves into this 'voluminous' vehicle. Actually, there was more on offer; the public was invited as well, with a Hilux Vigo, RAV4, Prado and two models of the Cruiser ('07 and '08) to be sampled. The upstart Terios was there too. Getting there was half the fun; the climb through the Blue Mountains from Papine really reminds one of how beautiful this country is.
Ad executive's suicide puts blogs under scrutiny
She said the strong reactions had not changed her view on anonymity in posts, which she said "allows for more compelling, insider content" because the writers need not fear retribution. Parker said it was "worth considering" a policy that would require those who leave scathing, personal comments on his site to identify themselves. In the meantime, the incident has helped the sites in some ways. Parker said his blog ordinarily received 4,000 to 5,000 hits a day, but last week, it had more than 12,000 a day. AgencySpy's writer said that traffic had "obviously grown" and that advertisers on the site had not complained. .
Wild Card -- Weekend
Only 3 more days until we get after it again in the new year. I hope you're enjoying yourselves as 2005 comes to an end. If you have some thoughts on the old year or resolutions for the new one, you can post it here. Or start your own thread. Or wait until Tuesday ... .
Obama wows large Zorn arena crowd
Obama spoke of the people he has met on the campaign trial, from teachers working two jobs, students with tens of thousands of dollars of debt, veterans who did everything asked of them but need the help of their country now."All over the country I meet Americans who are proud of their country, but wonder how America's standing in the world could drop so precipitously," he said. "They love their country but they want their cherished values back."As he has been doing lately, Obama went on to mention some specific issues and his proposals, such as a plan to make health care affordable for all Americans, and doing so by the end of his first term. He mentioned raising the minimum wage every year, with inflation, continuing high standards in education but measuring success with more than a single standardized test.
