| The GOP's Fake Tough Guys
Today's video: Huckabee sucks up to the teachers' union. ... 11:54 P.M. ___________________________ Monday, December 10, 2007 The GOP's fake immigration tough guys: Mark Krikorian cracks Giuliani's code on immigration. It seems Giuliani wants to stop illegal immigrants at the border but resists "internal" enforcement--e.g., employer sanctions. I'm less gung ho about the need for "attrition" in the immigrant population than Krikorian is--but you do have to have "internal" enforcement to diminish the "jobs magnet," no? Unless, as Krikorian speculates regarding Giuliani, you only want control at the border as a political stunt to appease the 'yahoos' and pave the way for legalization. .... P.S.: Meanwhile, Krikorian realizes that Huckabee--who theoretically based his seemingly tough, "prevent amnesty" proposal on a Krikorian article--has no idea what his own plan is actually about.
Pairing wines with chocolates: Keep it sweet
I'm looking for a special wine for Valentine's Day, maybe something to go with chocolate. Can you recommend something that's not too expensive? -- Carrie, Old Bridge When I started out in the wine business 30 years ago, no one ever talked about drinking wine with chocolate. Wine went with beef; with chocolate, we drank coffee. Today, pontificating about what kinds of wine -- red or white, still or sparkling -- go with what types of chocolate -- milk or dark, mousse or cake -- is a hot topic among foodies and wine geeks. (Don't get me wrong: Some of my best friends are wine geeks.) The normally sound advice "Drink what you like" doesn't quite work with chocolate, because most wines, in fact, taste awful with chocolate. The one wine-pairing rule you never want to forget is: If the food is sweet, the wine needs to be sweeter.
New checkpoint opens on Interstate 8
To answer your question as to why the legality has been challenged it goes like this: Dumb criminal gets caught at a checkpoint doing something bad or is a fugitive and is going to spend the better part of their life in prison. Their only recourse is to question the legality of why they were stopped. It goes before the courts and the courts hold that checkpoints are legal. This scenario isn't just with Border Patrol many other dumb criminals have tried this tactic with CHP, LAPD, LASO, and just about every other law enforcement agency. Where I'm at now isn't the only law enforcement agency I've worked for, but it's always the same desperate criminal that doesn't want to rot in prison will grasp at straws to stay out. " .
Giant interest as Manning and Co. advance
I say again, nothing is sweeter than when America's Team beats up on Dallas. I was so happy/excited last night - the wife got some! Looks like the Cowpies couldn't back-up all that talk. No surprise there. And Owens 'crying' was priceless, but I don't think he'll be getting any awards for THAT performance, any more than the one on the field - LOL! After the Cowpies wore themselves out on that 10+ minute, 20 play drive in the 2nd qtr, then we came back in 43 seconds to tie the score, I advised my family/friends that Dallas was defeated at that point. THEY were working much too hard, for too little. After their long drive, you could see the exhaustion and defeat on their faces. At that point I knew we had them. It was just TOO EASY scoring on them last night. It would have been sweeter had we run up the score because we easily could have - quickly.
Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy
A long-running feud between Univision Communications and the Mexican broadcaster that provides most of its programming is headed for a showdown in a federal court in Los Angeles. If Univision loses, it could see many of its prime-time shows yanked. While a dispute over royalty payments is the source of the current dispute, tensions between the two companies date back to bad blood between Univisions former chief, A. Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion. The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S.

First Half Fantasy Recap & Second Half Preview
Paul's lethal combination of points, assists, and steals, in addition to terrific FG and FT%'s, make him the league's most valuable fantasy performer. Honorable Mention - LeBron James: I'll pull a stat from the recent HOOPSWORLD Magazine (be on the lookout for it this week): Only two players in NBA history have averaged at least 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists for an entire season – Oscar Robertson (multiple times) and some guy named Michael Jordan ('88-'89). Not bad company to keep. (Garrett) - Chris Paul: The race between CP3 and King James is pretty tight, but Paul gets the edge because he is a point guard which is a much more difficult fantasy position to fill. Honorable Mention - LeBron James: There isn't anything James doesn't do well, but Paul is dominant in more categories.
