Wal-Mart unleashes employees in blogs

Microsoft is one of Wal-Mart's biggest suppliers. But that did not stop the Wal-Mart employee in charge of buying computers from panning Microsoft's newest operating system, Vista.

"My life has not changed dramatically" because of the new system, he wrote on his blog. "Well, for that matter, it hasn't changed at all."

His public burst of candor was not isolated. On the same blog, a video game buyer for Wal-Mart slammed a "Star Wars" film as a "debacle," even though Wal-Mart still sells the movie.

Known for its strict, by-the-books culture - accepting a cup of coffee from a supplier can be a firing offense - Wal-Mart is now encouraging employees who do the buying to speak frankly, even critically, about the products the chain carries.

An unusual new Web site by Wal-Mart, which was quietly created during the holiday shopping season, has become a forum for unvarnished rants about gadgets, raves about new video games and advice on selecting environmentally sustainable food.

Aramis Ramirez declines to discuss cockfighting

MESA, Ariz. – Aramis Ramirez arrived at spring training Tuesday and gladly talked about last season when he led the Cubs in RBIs and helped them win the NL Central. But the team’s star third baseman had little to say on a report about his passion for cockfighting in his native Dominican Republic.Ramirez batted .310, hit 26 homers and led the Cubs with 101 RBIs but struggled in the first round of the playoffs. He was 0-for-12 as the Cubs were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks."You know, it happens," he said. "They were hot and played good. That wasn’t the reason we lost. We didn’t play well."The New York Times reported this month that Ramirez was featured in an issue of a Dominican cockfighting magazine, En La Traba, and is pictured with some roosters."When I’m in the Dominican Republic, I’m dedicated entirely to them," he was quoted as saying.Click here to read the rest at Chicago Baseball 365.

Roddick overpowers Stepanek to win in San Jose

I think maybe I got my foot in the door as far as that's concerned and now I need to build on that."

Roddick had played only four competitive matches since winning the Davis Cup late last season, losing in the third round of the Australian Open and winning his only match in this month's Davis Cup tie against Austria.

He was pushed to a third-set tiebreaker in the opening round here against lucky loser Chris Guccione before starting to find his groove. Roddick is stressing this stretch of the season and has accepted a wild-card entry to play in Memphis this upcoming week in order to get more work.

"It was important for me to come here and play well because I didn't have a good result in Australia and I hadn't really played much tennis this year so far," Roddick said. "This year might have been more important than other years."

The top-seeded Roddick never even faced a break point in the final as Stepanek had no answer for his booming serve.

Domino's Pizza Builds on Heritage with Launch of 'You Got 30 Minutes'

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Domino's Pizza (NYSE: DPZ) , the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, is launching a rebranding campaign, "You Got 30 Minutes," with agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B, www.cpbgroup.com). The campaign builds on the company's 30- minute delivery heritage by highlighting the value of what pizza delivery really does for consumers - gives them free time.

This time around, there's no guarantee of delivery within 30 minutes as there was in Domino's past. Instead, the message to consumers is that they have free time -- about 30 minutes -- to do whatever they want, because Domino's Pizza is taking care of the meal.

"We're presenting consumers with the gift of time, which is something our customers all need more of," says Ken Calwell, Domino's chief marketing officer.

Letter about ‘change is constant’ was excellent

Local attorneys who are experts in this field will conduct the seminar. They will advise you on what steps you need to take to protect your business against frivolous and harassing complaints. Remember, if a person works for you on a daily basis, and only for you, then that person should be considered an employee, and paid as such. As I stated in December, we do not condone employee misclassification in any way, but we do not support this legislation because of the language that is in it and absent from it.

As always, we at the SAHBA work diligently to protect our industry and our members from devastating legislation like HB 1795, but we can always use your help. Information about membership will be available at the seminar. Hope to see you this Friday.

Andy Pettitte apologizes for using HGH

Moreover, Clemens has filed a defamation lawsuit against McNamee.

"This has been a horrible situation for me," Pettitte said. "I'm hoping and praying I don't have to do anything else."

"If that were to all die down, I think it would pretty much go away," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "But obviously, there is some litigation there that Andy might be a part of.

"So from that standpoint, it could linger. But my thought is Andy has probably told everything that there is."

Pettitte posted a 15-9 record with a 4.05 earned-run average in 34 starts and two relief appearances last season, his 10th in New York.

The left-hander is 201-113 lifetime with a 3.83 ERA and 25 complete games in 403 appearances (393 starts) over 13 MLB seasons with the Yankees and Astros.
