| 2 law leaders out over handling of slur
Two of South Carolina's top-ranking law-enforcement officials are out of jobs because the governor says they were too lenient on a state trooper captured on video using a racial slur as he threatened to kill a suspect. Gov. Mark Sanford announced Friday that Department of Public Safety director Jim Schweitzer, whom Sanford appointed in 2004, and Col. Russell Roark, who heads the Highway Patrol, had offered their resignations Friday morning. A video from a 2004 traffic stop in Greenwood County shows a suspect fleeing. From off camera, the trooper yells, "You better run, n-----, because I'm fixin' to kill you." The governor said the trooper, who is still on patrol, should have been fired. Schweitzer and Roark say they stand by the punishment they handed out -- anger management and diversity training.
Wake Forest's Ghee has a secret weapon
Brandon Ghee makes a video copy each Sunday of the Wake Forest game he played in the previous day, sends it through the mail or via his parents to his older brother Patrick, and waits for the phone to ring. “It usually doesn’t take long,’’ said Ghee, a graduate of Jack Britt High School. “Sometimes he gets back to me that Sunday night.’’ Patrick Ghee always offers a quick critique of his brother’s performance during those calls. Patrick does so from a perspective of experience. He was Wake Forest’s starting safety the last two seasons and participated in training camp with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks over the summer. “He tells me if I’m not hustling or gives me tips on backpedaling,’’ Brandon Ghee said.

McCain Blasts Report on Lobbyist Relationship
McCain called a press conference in Toledo, Ohio, to slam the paper for embellishing his committee activities on Iseman's behalf. "I'm very disappointed in The New York Times piece. It's not true," he said. Asked about his relationship with the lobbyist, he said, "I have many friends in Washington who represent various interests and … I consider her a friend." He said he saw her "on occasion" at fundraisers, receptions and committee meetings, but that was all. His wife Cindy defended her husband, saying, "He's a man of great character and I'm very disappointed in The New York Times." .
